Flowering inspiration

This trail is a museum of some of the most beautiful wildflowers in the park. This was just a stunning example of how beautiful it is.
This is a particularly beautiful and wild part in an urban area. The annual Bluebells are in the thousands maybe millions now around the Cub Run waterway that is right beyond this Bluebell. It is one of millions in an endless field which expands out on both shores of Cub Run. There is no end in sight -- they expand beyond the horizon.
This farm is public and they cultivate and sell both sunflowers and tulips in season. They opened their field to those who have annual passes. The wind was well into the 50mph range so to have gotten this picture was in itself a miracle. The rich and velvety color of this flower made capturing on film irresistable.
This was a wonderful moment in Old Town Snohomish Washington. It is a beautiful town on the Snohomish River. This is on the main street where these beautiful flowers are growing up out of concrete.

This was one of the millions of wildflowers on the beautiful grassland hike at the Manassas Battlefield Brawner Farm trails
I was conducting a bird survey in one of my favorite locations where the birds and butterflies are plentiful in both numbers of variety. This was one of those moments where timing is perfect.
Another wildflower that graced the trail. These were in clusters. I spied a bee nestling inside to get nectar - leaving its little rear-end exposed. it was really quite adorable.
This is a truly wild area. The trails have not been maintained so they are the home for extraordinary wildlife sightings and hiking through magic. This was one of the many moments while I was there navigating.
I am one of several volunteer nestbox monitors on this small trail area in Northern Virginia. It is a place rich in bird life, wildlife and wild flowers. These were just waiting to be photographed.
I help monitor a trail of 10 nest boxes on a stretch of what is known in this area of Northern Virginia as Cub Run trails. The trail network is only a few miles from the Manassas National Battlefield Park. This particular location is a wonderland of bird, amphibian and forest with a wildflower rich area that is unparalleled in an urban setting. These were among the wildflowers greeting me as I monitored the nest boxes.
This is another one of the many wildflowers that I found as I hiked the trail.
This wildflower was on the Manassas National Battlefield Park 2nd Manassas hiking trail that spans almost 7 miles. I love these battlefield hikes because it is a demonstration of how places that were the centers of death and destruction become these magical lands of Earth's power and spirit reclaiming the space and bringing beauty and magic from a place that once was a place of death and profound grief and destruction.
This picture does not capture the tiny size of these beings. I was fortunate to have my Lumix 60x telephoto lens when I captured this moment. The butterfly was not startled and I was able to stand a good distance to capture this moment.
This is a flower among hundreds that grace one of the many wildflower areas at the George Mason University Fairfax VA campus. Our Office of Sustainability Programs has maintained and set aside a large number of tracts dedicated to the planting and nurturing of wild flowers.
George Mason University is known for its wonderful rows of wild flowers and pollinator gardens. This beauty was a resident in one of these wildflower gardens. The color was rich, stunning and unforgettable. I marveled for a few minutes trying to do justice to its beauty.
Another Cub Run wildflower moment in the area where I help monitor the next boxes on a stretch of trail in the Northern Virginia region.
This wonderful little Fiery Skipper was sipping the nectar from this flower. I got almost ten pictures of this beautiful butterfly on different parts of the flower. This picture captured best the extraordinary color contrast between the orange and purple.
This was striking given that right behind these bright flowers was a dark sky that was blowing in colder air at the rate of anywhere from 30-50 mph. It is a credit to my camera that I was able to capture this still.
